The weather was iffy for the Sunday July 2 but a heavy downpour just before the start of our tee times softened the greens a little — or did they ?  The greens at Royal Manchester were still fast and furious.

There were several outstanding shots that Sunday but one really stands out.  It was not the nice gap wedge shot by Jerome Lyons on the 130 yard par 3 that finished a foot from the cup to claim a CTP.  It could be the ripped 5 wood by Rick Princinsky on the 18th hole that cleared the pond (as shown in photo above) and landed on the green for a two putt par and a CLEAR. But that was not the most spectacular shot.  It could be the nice 9-iron by Brian Duffy onto the 9th green and then draining the 10 foot putt for an EAGLE. But that was not the most amazing shot. The most spectacular shot was Tim League’s drive on the 394 yard par 4 8th hole that was hit sort of high on the face and pooped up almost straight up, then hit the side of the concrete water bank which was 8 yards in front the tee box, and bounced back 5 yards for a total driving distance of 3 yards.  Note that Tim was able to make double bogey on that hole.  Congrats Tim. Greg Muolo and I have been researching that shot using Google Earth so Tim let us know if the distances are incorrect.

Needless to say that the eagle on the 9th hole propelled Brian Duffy to a low round of 78, net 68 to claim first place. Greg Muolo and Jerome Lyons were able to both shoot under net par; a net 71 to share second place. In fourth place was Kwang Yim right at a net 72.  And finishing out the top 5 prize money was a four-way tie by Michael Jan, Rick Princinsky, John Hassett, and Tim League all at net 74. The four of them got to share the $15 prize money.

Greg Muolo captured the first CTP with a 7-iron to the 147 yard par 3 #2 hole. Again Jerome Lyons had the CTP on the #6 hole. Andy Weston-Dawkes ripped a 9-iron to the 149 yard par 3 #11 hole to capture that CTP. Bruce Grau rifled a three rescue within 10 feet on the diabolical 177 yard par 3 #15 hole.

Jerome Lyons claimed two CLEARS on the par 5 holes with birdies, first was the third hole and the second was the #12 hole. Brian Duffy got the second CLEAR with the eagle on the par 5 #9 hole. Michael Jan claimed a CLEAR on the final par 5 #16 hole with a birdie. Rick Princinsky grabbed the final CLEAR with an excellent par on the final #18 hole.

Everybody bellied up to the drinking tables outside Royal Manchester afterwards to enjoy the pleasant weather.
