Tour Series #5 PB Dye Results
With a little moisture on the grounds and the greens not being cut due to the recent rains, the winner of the Tour Series #5 was the PB Dye course as no one was able to shoot under net par. The PB Dye course was definitely built to exercise your course management and then challenge the shot execution from driver to fairways to the undulated greens. Each day with different pin positions can provide different shots and execution to the greens at PB Dye. Basically one can lose their shirt at this course or in Kwang’s case one can lose his shirt collars. Standing next to the two sharpest dressers on the course is Kwang with his MCPS “back to school fair” shirt since he had forgotten his collared shirt in the morning.
Michael Jan kept his ball in play throughout the round and was finally able to break the top and tie Jerome Lyons for first place with a net 73. Just one shot behind was Dick Markle shooting an 85 net 74. Tied for fourth place was Bob Ingram and Greg Muolo both shooting a net 75. Brian Duffy took half of the CTPs as he captured the CTP on the long par 3 #8 hole using a 4 wood and then lasered his rescue 6 to within two feet on the last CTP #14 hole. Dick Markle eased a pitching wedge to within 5 feet on the first CTP #2 hole. And John Braun redeemed himself from a poorly par 3 tee shot on #8 which didn’t even reach the ravine by placing his iron shot within 10 feet on the ever dangerous peninsula green #11 hole, a 140 yard par 3 (pictured above).
Brian Duffy also cleaned up on the CTPs. He biridied the par 3 #14 hole and also chipped in for birdie on the most difficult hole #6 par 4 playing all of its 433 yards with an uphill second shot. Brian’s par on the long par 4 #5 hole secured his third CTP. Michael Jan’s approach shot close to the pin on the #3 492 yard par 5 hole allowed him to capture a CLEAR. Bruce Grau was able to make a nice par on the opening hole 366 yard par 4 for his CLEAR. Greg Muolo captured a CLEAR with a birdie on #4 367 yard hole draining a downhill 20 foot putt and then almost holed a chip-in for birdie on the #13 400 yard par 4 hole for his second CLEAR. Brian Murphy made two steady pars on the par 5s #7 hole and #17 hole to capture his two CLEARs.
Below are the results.
Next event is scheduled for September 18 with the understanding that it is prior to the Austin trip. September 4 was off the books as it is on Labor Day weekend and September 11 was nixed due to too many people playing in other events.
