Knucklehead OPEN update – Round 3
The third round of KHO was held at the Jack Nicklaus designed course called Great Waters. And as described by the name there was plenty of water hazards to be avoided.
One of the more remarkable holes was the short par 4 293 yard #11 hole (as shown in photo). Alan Burke hit a nice 60 yard pitch into the green and his ball just missed rolling into the hole for an eagle leaving just 2 feet remaining for birdie. Unfortunately he missed that downhill putt. However his luck was still going strong on the final #18 hole where the par 5 green was protected by a wall fronting the green. From 110 yards out Alan hit his iron shot towards the pin but hit the top of the wall where Greg Bayor is pointing but his ball landed far left where Alan is standing (see photo). Fortunately he was able to two putt for a nice par.
Greg Bayor captured a CLEAR on the downhill par 4 353 yard #7 hole. Fred Wine garnered two CLEARs in this round with the second coming on the difficult 379 yard #13 hole. Fred stated it was the change to a stronger grip that allowed him to turn his game around. Gill Nichols hit a beauty 9 iron to within 10 feet on the short 138 yard #17 hole to capture a CTP. He then was able to drain his birdie putt to cut Bob Ingram’s previous birdie.
Again the course was surrounded by water throughout the course. Near the 16 green the houses were a little bigger. Checkout the house in background where Alan and Greg Bayor are posing (see photo). At the end of the round the group posed for a group shot in front of the Great Waters clubhouse (see photo).
Fred Wine shared his winnings from his 2 CLEARs at the da Corrado Ristorante. The food was so good that the desserts where a must have. Unfortunately for Bruce Grau he was unable to enjoy all of his Tarta al Cioccolata (chocolate cake) as Rick Princinsky and Joe Hirsch devoured about half of it. Thanks again for the treat Fred.
At the end of the third round the top 4 players are ;
Bruce Grau -1
Pete Blauvelt -1
Alan Burke -4
Joe Hirsch -13
