The second round of the 45th KHO was played at the National course. Architect Tom Fazio provided three distinct 9 holes. The KHO would be played over the Ridge and Bluff courses which offered numerous elevation changes.
Pete Blauvelt used his solid chipping skills to play some steady golf. Knucklehead rookie Fred Wine overcame his anxiety of the possibility of getting a negative stableford number and captured his first clear. Alan Burke and Gary Boukis were able to make a surge to front of leaderboard as both garnered two CLEARs for $98.
Not all golfers avoided the hazards. Just like the gaffe with the car rentals, Bruce Grau ” stumbled ” into the creek to the right of #7 hole on the Bluff course. Bruce is pointing to where the high water was on his left side (see pic).
The National golf course brought several water ponds into play as illustrated by the downhill dogleg right #9 hole of the Bluff course with water to the right of the green. In addition the National course had the better area to relax afterwards as Pete, Bob, and Joe share a moment with the #9 hole of Bluff course in the background (see pic).
The Tavern at the National course offered a comfortable setting to enjoy a good meal with a delicious dessert of shortbread cake topped with ice cream the size of tennis balls. Servers were often polite stating “Yes darling” n their southern accents.
