Knucklehead OPEN update – Round 1

The beginning of the 45th Knucklehead started off on a rocky start. After arriving at Atlanta Airport the group was met with an usual long line of about 80 people at the Avis car rental. Supposedly Avis overbooked car reservations and did not account for the distribution of their car supply taken by Floridian survivors of Hurrican Ian. After much restrategizing the group decided to Uber their way to Reynolds resort in Georgia.
First round was played at the Landing course within the Reynolds resort. The architect Bob Cupp starts off the back side with a daunting tee shot over a nearby pond (see pic). This was no problem for Joe Hirsch as he remained dry and eventually parred the hole for the opening CLEAR.
Following #10 hole was a brutal long par three with a false front (see pic). Pete Blauvelt hit a solid 3-wood to capture the first CTP of the tourney. And the tourney was underway.
At the close of the back nine, the #18 hole required a solid shot to the uphill green (see pic). In the background and to the right are two of the luxurious villas that the group stayed at. Finishing the last hole was an inviting pond to the right of #9 green that many golfers balls rolled into (see pic).
Bruce Grau was able to stay clear of the hazards for the most part and forge a lead after the first round. But the big winner was Pete Blauvelt who garnered 4 clears for $108 and 2 CTPs for $40. Below are the top 4 in the standings.
After the round a large order of pizzas from Marcos Pizza was just the right recipe to watch the Ravens game on Monday Night football.
Standings after first round;
Bruce Grau. +2
