The stigma of the Knucklehead group where miscues are a norm hit full force at Greystone golf club on Saturday Nov 12.  In mid Ocotober, Gill Nichols and Bob Ingram met with the Club pro to discuss a rate for Nov 12 event. A rate of $62 was agreed upon. However, the proposed cost of the golf outing did not trickle down from the Club Pro to the weekend desk attendants.  So instead of paying the agreed price of $62 the desk attendants were demanding $85.  However through some deliberation, and a call to the assistant club pro, the desk attendants did allow all players to play at a rate of $61.

The change in price was fantastic because the course looked to be in fine condition, the day was a beautiful crisp autumn day, and this was the FINALE round of the 2022 Tour Series.  Several golfers were in a tight race for the Richard Robb Tour Series memorial trophy which included Michael Jan (70 points), Bob Ingram (67 points) , Andy Weston-Dawkes (64 points), and Dick Markle 63 points).

John Hassett hit some solid iron shots and used his knowledge of the course to fire a one over net 73 to claim first place prize for the day. One stroke behind was Brian Duffy with a net 74 shooting a 39 on the front side and a fortyish plus number on the back nine. Third place was shared by Jerome Lyons and Brian Murphy each with a net 77.

John Hassett had his irons dialed in as he placed his name on several par 3s for the CTP contest. He eventually captured the par 3 CTPS on the #3 hole with a 7 iron and on #12 hole with a 6 iron. Any Weston-Dawkes was unfazed by the water on the par 3 #8 hole and captured his CTP on that hole with a  5 iron. Jerome Lyons lasered his 9 iron on the #14 hole within 8 feet  to garner that CTP (keep this distance on mind for later discussion). Bob Ingram used a 4 hybrid to be the only golfer to land on the green on the #16 hole to capture that CTP.

Andy Weston-Dawkes made a nice up and down on the very first hole for par and to garner a CLEAR and gain an initial foothold for the Tour Series trophy cup.  Kwang Yim made a beautiful par on the very difficult uphill #9 hole with its pin on the back shelf to garner a CLEAR there. Dick Markle wedged a beautiful shot to the #10 hole for birdie to capture a CLEAR. John Braun made a nice par on the dog-leg right #11 hole to get his CLEAR. Bob Ingram birdied the par 5 #13 hole to capture a CLEAR there.  John Braun was the only golfer to par the short par 3 #14 hole to capture his second CLEAR. But wait – – wasn’t Jerome Lyons just 8 feet from the pin with his tee shot ?  Yes but Jerome three putted from there.  The second Knucklehead miscue.

Back to the chase for the Tour Series cup. The four golfers in contention for the cup did not play stellar golf throughout the round. Each struggled in their own way.  But at the end of 16 holes Andy Weston-Dawkes and Michael Jan were tied and Bob Ingram was a stroke behind. Two balls in the water by Andy on #17 hole that eventually led to a 9 was the end of Andy’s chase. Michael Jan parred #17 and #18 that kept Bob Ingram at bay. Thus with the sun setting and light fading fast, the ceremonial trophy hand over from 2021 winner Jerome Lyons to the assumed 2022 winner Michael Jan were quickly photographed against the backdrop of the #9 hole fairway.

Knucklehead miscue #3. As in the infamous words of Bruce Grau — HOLD  ALL  TICKETS.

In the scoring room/Greystone restaurant, the totals for the FINALE were added up.  Remember that the points allotted for the FINALE are doubled so they go in the range of 40, 36, 32, 28, etc…. The ceremonial picture would have been justified if Michael Jan had finished closer to Brian Duffy but several golfers finished between them and further pushed the point distribution. Brian Duffy had started the day with only 47 points and in 9th place for Tour Series. But with a 40 point award for the finale round and only 26 points awarded to Michael Jan that pushed Brian’s season total to 81 points compared to Michael’s only 80 points.  The highest jump to first place in the entire 19 year history of the Tour Series.

At the end of the 2022 Tour Series the prize payout was as follows;

Brian Duffy        @ 81 points —  $100 and trophy

Michael Jan        @ 80 points —  $80

Bob Ingram         @ 74 points —  $70

Jerome Lyons     @ 73 points —  $50

Andy W-D            @ 66 points —  $30
