Sorry for the quick turnaround but we needed to get one more tour series event prior to Williamsburg Knucklehead Open trip. Some considerations at picking golf courses leaves us with limited picks. Wyncote is now considered a premier golf course so their $100 is out of range until 2 pm when it changes to $65, Maryland National offered Hot Deals at $65 beginning at 12:30 but cannot get 3 groups at that rate instead need to pay $85. Other courses checked were Lake Presidential rate is at $85 until 2 pm plus course suffered damage over summer, Greystone & Woodlands was played too often during the summer Tuesday group, Renditions is $92 until 4 pm WOW, Worthington Manor is $80 at noon, Musket Ridge is $80 at noon and $65 at 2pm, and Waverly Woods is at $85 at noon.
Pilgrim Oaks has a good bargain at $43 beginning at noon but is planning aeration beginning Sept 6. Plus Pilgrim Oaks does not have a clubhouse so provided food is limited to just snacks. We should put that course on the agenda next year and invoke PLP (Parking Lot Pub).
PB Dye offers $70 beginning at noon and clubhouse is allowing seating indoors. So I contacted PB Dye’s assistant pro Keith & he lifted the two group limitation.
PB Dye golf course is where you’ll also use every club in the bag to play virtually every shot in the book. It’s vintage P.B. Dye, with a flair for the extravagant. Expect the in-between game to be tested, as this course places a premium on accurate approach shots like on hole #11 as seen in photo. Large, well-undulated greens with plenty of break provide a challenging putting surface. P.B. Dye Golf Club is the only course in Maryland to feature Penn G-2 bent grass greens. One of the newer seed varieties, G-2 is also used at the Pinehurst No. 2 course. Throughout the course, closely mowed collection areas and the large greens replicate conditions seen on the PGA tour, LPGA tour, Hooters tour, and now the Knucklehead Tour.
We have tee times at 12:30, 12:40, and 12:50 for Saturday Sept 12.
