Maryland National results

We had a great turnout at Maryland National on Thursday July 25 taking advantage of the reduced rates. And we were fortunate that the final group just snuck in before the rain showers.

Jeff Gruel wasn’t fazed by the large number of competitors as he handled Maryland National’s uphills and downhills and creek beds shooting a smooth 90 for a net 67 and a comfortable win. Greg Muolo, playing in the same group, finished in second with a net 70. Jerome Lyons shot a net par to finish in third place. Rounding out the top four was Kwang Yim just one stroke behind Jerome. And tied for fifth place —  and still in the prize money – were Marty Sadowski, Bob Ingram, Brian Murphy, Dave Jernigan, and Ryan Pulaski all sharing fifth place prize money of $10 and each getting the substantial sum of $2.

Jerome Lyons handled the par 3s’ with ease as he used a 9-iron on the uphill 157 yard #3 hole, used a 9-iron again on the downhill 158 yard #6 hole, and finished off capturing the final CTP on the downhill 159 yard #17 hole again using a 9-iron. Greg Muolo smoked his 5-wood on the downhill 184 yard #12 hole to capture that CTP. Nick, acquaintance of Jerome’s, used his 9-iron on the 159 yard #14 hole to capture that CTP.

In the CLEARS section Brian Murphy made some nice shots into the par 3’s to claim a couple of CLEARs. Brian’s first CLEAR was on the 157 yard #3 hole as he drained a putt for birdie and a net ZERO. Brian’s second CLEAR was a nice par on the downhill 158 yard #6 hole. Gill Nichols made a nice birdie on the hide-the-pin green 321 yards #9 hole. There was a rumbling of a CLEAR on the 376 yard #11 hole that has a handicap of 1 as Kwang Yim had a birdie but was halved by Dave Jernigan’s par and both getting a net 2 on that hole. Jerome Lyons had a smooth par on the tight split fairway 268 yard #16 hole to capture a CLEAR there. Again there were rumblings of a CLEAR on the downhill 159 yard #17 hole as Jerome made a birdie but that was halved by Brian Murphy as he made a par both getting a net 1 on that hole. There were no rumblings on the final CLEAR as Bob Ingram got a birdie on the 352 yard final #18 hole.
