There were many scenarios that could play out in the final round at Barton Creek’s Fazio Foothills course. Greg Sadowski entered the final round by 5 points over Joe Hirsch and Bob Ingram. Also second place was up for grabs as five golfers were within four points of each other.

With not a cloud in the sky and overall calm conditions Greg Sadowski rocketed out of the gates shooting a one-over-par on the front nine. Greg’s highlight was a 4-hybrid to the closely guarded par 5 8th hole green. With 40 foot cliffs to the left of the green and high hay to right of the green, Greg sent a soaring 215 yard shot on the green to set up a 2 putt birdie.

Joe Hirsch capitalized on his 6-iron play on the 158 yard par 3 #3 hole to capture one of his two CTPs on the front side. However he could not keep up his momentum as Joe ballooned to a 53 on the backside. Bob Ingram dialed in on the par 3s on the backside as he captured the 2 CTPs on the back nine. However his driver was wild and could not find the fairway on the back nine causing him falter to a 46.

Coming from the back of the pack was Bruce Grau who shot the best round on the final day finishing with a +4, jumping from sixth place to second place, and collecting $530 on bets and prize money. Bruce captured three clears highlighted by a par on the difficult and tight par 4 387 yard #10 hole. Rounding out the top three was Alan Burke who tied with Greg Sadowski shooting the second best round for the day at -1 point. Alan played consistent golf throughout the day shooting 43 on the front and 44 on the back. Alan’s highlight was a nice up and down on the 501 yard uphill 18th hole for par and a Clear.

As some may not know Austin is homeland to many bats and the 18th hole at the Fazio Foothills contains an actual batcave. Of course being knuckleheads one of us in the group was going to find it. Sure enough Gill Nichols was intending to layup but hit his 9-iron shot into the batcave. Congrats Gill on getting a new kind of “birdie”. The golf course marshal ruffled some feathers on the turn as he told the group they were behind. This caused Brian Duffy to yank his drive off the 10th tee box 70 yards left, over the bordering pond and onto the 11th fairway. This shot was an example of Brian’s difficulties throughout the week. Gary Boukis was quiet most of the day as he had few riveting golf shots to talk during the round or after a long hot week of golf. Only a soothing dip into the resort’s hot tub was consoling.

The late tee times on Friday were not conducive for a post tournament banquet. So we could not get the annual post tourney commentary from Bruce Grau. However he was too busy seeking cryptocurrency investment tips to invest his winnings.

Thank you again Gill for setting up the venues & tee times. The resort and golf courses were top notch as always. Congrats to Greg Sadowski for winning his third KHO title.
