It was going to be a perfect day when all the Knuckleheads gathered at the Bridges for the 5th battle of the Knucklehead Tour Series. This event was especially special when Jeff Gruel, the 2001 Big Dog, graced us with his presence.

Conditions were pretty decent despite the dry conditions for the past few days. Weather wise, Bruce Grau announced that there was a zero chance of rain when 1 minute before our tee time, heavens opened up and showered us with a river of rain. Perhaps that was good since some of us didn’t shower that morning, LOL.

However, the rain came in like a “Lyon” and went out like a “lamb” just like the knucklehead, Jerome. He began the day with a striped tee shot down the first fairway and stuck the approach shot to about 5 feet. Smooth roll to a birdie start predicted his round. He followed it up with birdies on #4 and #7 for a smooth 38 front. However, his birdie on #4 was bested by Bruce Grau who knocked it even closer for a birdie on #14 (an unusually long par 3 at 311 yds) to claim the CTP prize.

Jerome continued his tear on the back 9 until he had a Knucklehead moment on #15 when he carded a whopping 9 on a par 5 #15. That Knucklehead error dashed his hope for another sub 40 back nine. But he managed to finish strong the last 3 holes with three straight pars for a superb 82 net 66. At this point, all other Knuckleheads were playing for a 2nd and 3rd finish at best except John “play well everywhere else except Knucklehead events” Hassett who could have taken the lead and had the second best round going until a “10” on hole #10. Doh!

Bruce Grau with his hot irons and superb handicap management skills comes in 2nd with a net 70 and Brian Duffy still managed to come in for a third prize with net 73. All others didn’t have a sniff of a chance to challenge the 3 leaders. Big Dog 2001, Jeff Gruel, unfortunately, could not muster the old magic to show all of us a thing or two.

Jerome garnered 2 clears (mostly for the front nine of course) as Brian Murphy and Kwang Yim. Brian Duffy, Bruce Grau, and John Hassett grabbed one clear each. Watch out. Jerome is on a tear to win his first Rich Robb Tour Series as a Knucklehead!  Full results from the Bridges is in table below.
