2021 Knucklehead OPEN – Round 1
The 44th Knucklehead Open in Austin Texas at Barton Creek started with Bruce Grau announcing the players and their hometown as they teed off the first hole at the Crenshaw Cliffside course. Gary “From No Where” Boukis used his putting skills to surge in the lead. Gary started off solidly by hitting his 8-iron to within 10 feet for a birdie on the #3 hole.
Bob Ingram made a 20 foot birdie on the 175 par 3 hole #11 to get to Even in points total for the first round..Greg Sadowski hit a knockdown 9 iron on the 150 yard par 3 13th hole and drained a two foot breaking putt for birdie to close the first round at minus 2.
Joe Hirsch garnered one of his 3 clears by scrambling for par on the uphill 570 yard par #15 hole where he almost lost his golf ball twice on the hole. Alan Burke captured one of his two clears by birdieing the downhill #14 hole by draining a 6 foot putt. Brian Duffy captured a clear by draining a downhill 20 foot putt on the #1 handicap hole on the par 4 401 yard #4 hole.
On the comical side of golf, Bruce Grau was playing in the greenside bunker on the 17th hole. He skilled his shot over the green up the steep hill, which then ricocheted off a rock, and rolled back down the hill over the green to the fringe for a net 5 yard shot.
The comedy continued on the 18th hole as Bruce drove the cart 30 yards in front of Alan’s iron shot to the green with Gary Boukis yelling “Alan Wait Wait!” during the middle of his downswing. Alan’s shot ended up in the ravine.
To inform you how fortunate Gary was today he wanted to check the stock market prior to its closing. So he set his phone alarm for 4 p.m. to sell off some of his holdings. Unknowingly Austin is one hour behind EST so it actually rang at 5 p.m. EST time which is after the market closed. Hiwever his holdings gained a profit so he made profit by not his holdings.
